Pizza Pizza!

Posted: September 26, 2013 in Uncategorized

For my second blog post I will be discussing the various pizza parlors in the ’04. I like to think of myself as a bit of a pizza connoisseur. Having lived in numerous different cities I have had the privilege of sampling pizza in all of them. There is a saying that says “even when pizza is bad it’s good”. To be completely honestly I favor the New York style pizza (thin and greasy) over the Chicago style (deep dish).

According to urban spoon there are 22 establishments that serve pizza in the 78704 area code, I have tried most. These pizza places range from big chain restaurants such as Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s to trailers like Blue Dog Pizza.

3 places that I would recommend to get pizza in the ’04 are…

#3 Home Slice. I would have suggested them higher but they were closed on Memorial Day. Being a veteran I REALLY wanted Home Slice that day so that’s why they get the 3rd spot. Home Slice offers traditional pizzas along with specialty pizzas such as the white clam pizza & eggplant pie pizza.Home Slice

#2 Southside Flying Pizza. This place servers up a pizza called the Southsider, which is amazing! The only knock I have on this place is their largest pie is only 17”.

And my #1 recommendation…Mercury Pizza. They only serve slices and one size 20”. This place is small but is hands down my favorite pizza place in the ’04. The Velvet Sadie is my go to, check it out! Mercury Pizza

My name is Jack Hatches a current student at Texas State University. I graduated from Texas State in 2005 and now going back to school to brush up on my computer (or lack thereof) skills. I have lived in New Jersey, New Orleans, New York, San Diego, San Antonio, San Marcos and Houston. I have also visited many countries abroad while in the military. I now have the privilege of living in one of the greatest cities in world, Austin, Tx. Specifically the 78704 zip code of Austin, Tx. Some refer to the area as So Co (South Congress) or the ’04. The ’04 is filled with plentiful restaurants bars and shops to fit just about all of Austin’s diverse community needs. Whether you’re looking for an intimate dinner, pizza, a great dive, a place to watch a sporting event, drink specials, a venue to listen to some live music or just about everything in between the ’04 will most likely be able to accommodate you. I will be posting pictures, videos, websites and maps to share with you what the ’04 has to offer.

Stay tuned!
